21-year-old man dies on the Overland

Mar. 17, 2015

A sobering reminder of just how dangerous the Overland Track can be occurred last month when a 21-year-old Chinese man died of what is believed to be hypothermia.

The weather had been terrible, with constant rain and strong wind. The student was believed to have been under prepared for the poor conditions, passing away  somewhere near the Cirque at the northern section of the hike.

The shocking news is a reminder that conditions on the track can change quickly and turn wet, windy and freezing cold even in summer. Make sure you bring all the right gear and are well prepared for all conditions.
