Overland Boardwalk Upgrades

Jan. 17, 2014

From Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service
The summer works program for the Overland Track is in full swing with the contract track workers Rob Boyes and Rob Zanis, hard at work improving the experience for walkers.

A high priority this season was the section of track around Frog Flats. In the last couple of years this section has deteriorated rapidly as drainage systems and the cordwood surface failed. The new twin boarding will arrest the environmental damage that was occurring and it is expected the surrounding ground will rapidly recover. Walkers will certainly enjoy the improvement.

Once the Robs are on top of the work at Frog Flats, attention will shift to Pelion Gap, Pinestone Creek and Kia Ora. The approaches to the Pelion East track and the Mount Ossa track are also in the program. The aim for this season is to install 2 kms of twin boarding, with work continuing in the previously mentioned areas next season.
